Q. What is Color Life Coaching?
A. Color Life Coaching is a unique life coaching method developed by Tomoko Izumi who is an expert on chromatherapy (color therapy) and healing. Color is a universal language understood by all people in all cultures, and it has been used for healing and medical practice since the times of ancient Egypt, Greece, India, and China. Color is a form of visible light and each color has its own frequency and vibration. The different wavelength frequencies of colors have different effects on our physical and psychological functions, thus affecting the energy flow and inner harmony within ourselves. With that principle, it is considered that the color choice you make reflects your inner state at a given moment. With client’s advance permission, a color life coach asks her client to choose three colors at the beginning of each session, which helps the life coach quickly assess the underlying themes of client’s life that may need to be explored and which may also suggest blocks and/or clues to possible solutions.
Q. How does life coaching differ from psychotherapy or counseling?
A. Generally speaking, the primary goal of psychotherapy or counseling is to remove or alleviate the emotional pain or distress that clients are experiencing, which often affect their functioning level. Clients may be encouraged to talk about their past, family of origin, and may be classified into a diagnosis depending on the severity of their symptoms. Therapy often ends when clients’ distress level diminishes and they regain normal functioning, report subjective feeling of well-being, or when their problems dissolved. Treatment can take months or years in severe cases.
On the other hand, coaching focuses on setting clear, achievable,
and measurable goals as well as on minimizing the amount of time it may take to achieve those goals with a set deadline. A life coach helps her clients to realize their dreams or meet their goals
by journeying with them step by step, providing perspectives, effective
tools, encouragement and support. A life coach helps her clients to get where they like
to be, maximizing their potential/resources, and often setting a hurdle higher but that is also realistic and achievable.
